Born in Ukraine and raised in Toronto, the 31-year-old is now a visiting researcher at OpenAI, the artificial intelligence lab started by Tesla founder Elon Musk and Y combinator president Sam Altman. He’s building virtual worlds where software bots learn to create their own language out of necessity. It looks like Artificial Intelligence has developed its own language, but some experts are skeptical of the claim. When plugged back into DALLE-E2, that gibberish text will result in images of airplanes – which says something about the way DALLE-E2 talks to and thinks of itself. Another possibility is that we’re readying way too far into it, discovering the AI system’s ability to create shortcuts by turning images into code, as Vice points out.

“It’s perfectly possible for a special token to mean a very complicated thought,” says Batra. “The reason why humans have this idea of decomposition, breaking ideas into simpler concepts, it’s because we have a limit to cognition.” Computers don’t need to simplify concepts. This moves to the part of futurism that many people fear- computer chips in your brain, or at least in the Bluetooth which you wear to make phone calls. What would be required is the GNMT program which could ‘hear’ the language spoken to then translate it to the listener. The microchip could be in a device that you wear in your ear, or it could be implanted in the brain so there is no interruption in the speaking/thought/reality process. In the end, Facebook had its bots stop creating languages because that’s not what the original point of the study was. Facebook has made a big push with chatbots in its Messenger chat app.
